|H'lo, I'm Mandy. I graduated from UCLA in 2008, where I majored in History, minored in English. I was originally planning to go on and get a PhD in Medieval Studies (the result of the torrid love affair I've had with the Black Death since I was fifteen), however I really don't have the work ethic for a PhD program, and besides, my language skills are bad enough that I don't think I could ever really manage the amount of Latin I'd need to have to do that. I'm now working on a MLIS (Master's in Library and Information Science) and trying really, really hard to not think about all the reading I should be doing.|
I'm currently working as a graphic designer at the same company I've been working at since I was sixteen (so, the past eight years) and trying to not think about how the hell I'm ever going to manage to stop living with my APUs (Aged Parental Units). Things are complicated by the fact that between the ages of seventeen and nineteen I underwent chemotherapy for Lymphoblastic Lymphoma (I've been in remission since the very start, though, so it's all good), which means health insurance is something of great importance to me. And I'm kinda on shaky ground with that at the moment (eek). I used to have a 'fro of awesome proportions, but my hair's finally back to normal (mostly), which means it's thick and kinda reddish-mousey-brown and gets everywhere.
|.passing time.||I got into anime when I was fourteen, and it's no longer my main fandom, but I still dabble some. I'm currently reading Hikaru no Go, Whistle!, and xxxHolic, among other series. After going on first a YuYuHakusho kick and then a Gundam Wing one, I was really into Harry Potter for a while, and then as an offshoot of that, a LiveJournal-based RPG, np_hogwarts. I'm mostly through with that, though and have gone on to other things. That shall not be named here.|
In my free time, I draw completely random art. Sometimes I also write. In addition to both of these pastimes, I also write and draw a couple of manga-style comics, SpaceHunter_X (science fiction) and Spirit-1 (fantasy/comedy).
|.randomly.||I take artwork commissions in exchange for paid lj time! For more information, see this post.|
Feel free to friend this journal if you like, just be aware that I'm a somewhat private person and not all that prone to friending back people I don't really know.
The quote in my journal's subtitle comes from Virginia Woolf's Mrs.Dalloway. The Mandylion is a relic which is maybe possibly the same thing as the Shroud of Turin. I am totally something holy that should be revered. And also a large cat.
